Sankofa

Sankoa:

is a Twi word from Ghana that means "to retrieve" or "to go back and get it". It also refers to an Adinkra symbol that depicts a bird with its head turned backward while its feet face forward, carrying an egg in its mouth. The symbol is a representation of the Akan people's belief that the past can guide the future, and that one's past is an important part of their future.
